Too often we become so busy with the day-to-day, week-to-week responsibilities of working with our students in classes and rehearsals, that we neglect tending to our own professional development needs – the curiosity that we encourage in our students is missing in our own practice. Take this opportunity to learn from highly respected teachers and choreographers at this year’s New Century Dance Project. Teachers and choreographers for preprofessional dancers are invited to observe classes and workshops taking place on Wednesday, August 14 thru Friday, August 16 from 9am – 5pm, and on Saturday, August 17 from 9am – Noon. Included is a lunch on Saturday with other teachers and festival artistic director Francisco Gella, and you’ll also receive a ticket to Friday evening’s student choreography showcase and the Saturday evening Gala Concert.
The Francisco Gella Dance Works (FGDW) Equity Scholarship Program is based on the belief that when given an opportunity to learn and do what they love, every student with motivation can succeed. Therefore every student deserves at least one chance to try. But we are fully aware that not every student has the financial means or support to participate in training and educational dance programs that will give them access to the information they need in pursuit of their goals.
To level the playing field of opportunity and identify talent, FGDW offers financial support through full and partial tuition scholarships to eligible applicants for all of its intensives and workshops.
The Festival Concert on Saturday will take place at the 500-seat Jeanne Wagner Theater at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center located in Downtown Salt Lake City, and home to our supporting festival sponsor Repertory Dance Theatre. As the culminating event of the annual New Century Dance Project (NCDP) festival in Salt Lake City, you’ll be part of a remarkable performing arts event that will leave you already waiting for the next one in 2020. The concert features the selected works of thirteen professional and emerging choreographers from across the United States (including representation from Utah) and Latin America, guest artists, student performers taking the stage in work created for them during the week’s festival, and a special performance by Repertory Dance Theatre.
Festival concert tickets are General Admission for $20 per ticket. As seating is limited (500 seats), the Gala is recommended for ages 8 and up and all patrons must have a ticket regardless of age (no babies in arms).
The Student Choreography Showcase is on Friday, August 16th, 2019 at 7:30pm at the Leona Wagner Black Box at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center located in Downtown Salt Lake City and home to our supporting festival sponsor Repertory Dance Theatre. An evening of diverse choreographic works by thirteen talented student choreographers from dance conservatories, schools and college/university dance programs spanning North America. These promising, exceptional young artists represent some of the very best of our collective dance future. Someday, you’ll be able to say you saw the work of these dance makers before they broke out.
All tickets are General Admission and are $15. The Showcase is recommended for ages 8 and up and all patrons must have a ticket regardless of age (no babies in arms).
