CALL FOR CHOREOGRAPHIC FELLOWS

NCDP CHOREOGRAPHIC FELLOWSHIP

Francisco Gella, founding artistic director of the New Century Dance Project (NCDP), invites choreographers to submit their work to be considered as part of the 2025 Festival held from July 26 - August 3. Choreographers selected will create a new work in Santa Fe, New Mexico.


Specifically, NCDP is seeking choreographer fellows who are upper-level collegiate (Junior and above) through established career professionals. Selected choreographers will create a new work in six days on advanced preprofessional dancers which will be performed at the end of the NCDP festival.

Please be sure to follow all instructions carefully.
Eligibility and submission requirements must be strictly adhered to or applicants risk disqualification.

DEADLINE

Submit by March 1, 2025

GUIDELINES

  • Applicants must be upper-level undergraduate (junior year and above) through an established career professional.
  • Must have a repertory that has been presented as part of a concert dance performance in the last two years.
  • 10-12 advanced preprofessional dancers ages 16 - 22 will be provided for choreographers to create their work.
  • Choreographers must commit to arriving in Santa Fe on Friday, July 25, and depart on or after Sunday, August 3, 2025.
  • Up to thirty hours of studio space will be provided at the New Mexico School of the Arts between Saturday, July 26, and Thursday, July 31.
  • A tech/dress rehearsal will be run on Thursday or Friday of NCDP Festival Week with the performance on Friday or Saturday (final schedule TBD).
  • The original work must be in the contemporary genre and be 8 to 12 minutes in length.
  • All production costs associated with the festival performance in Santa Fe are assumed by NCDP except props. The costume budget will have a cap of $1,000 per choreographer. Costuming expenses above this budget as well as any props will be the responsibility of the choreographer. . Production costs are defined as theatre rental, technical staff, and marketing.

FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS

Selected Choreographer Fellows will receive the following to participate:

  • Round-trip economy air
  • Ground transportation while in New Mexico
  • Lodging for ten days
  • Stipend of $1000
  • Meal allowance of $250
  • A professional-quality video of their work
  • A set of digital still images of their work
  • Critiques of the work from an expert panel of adjudicators
  • An in-person feedback forum with the adjudicators following the performance

CASH AWARD INCENTIVE

Choreographer Fellows’ work will be adjudicated by an experienced panel of concert dance professionals. Adjudicators will select one work as the Grand Prize recipient with an accompanying cash award of $2000.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Samples of work. One edited video should be submitted that includes at least two but no more than four samples of your choreographic work. Each section should include no more than two minutes of each individual work.
  • An artist's statement of intent about the work you plan to create. This may include concept description, the intent of music selection, the inspiration behind the work, etc. The statement must be no longer than one single-spaced page. A resume or curriculum vitae (CV).
  • A bio (300 words or less)
  • A high-resolution headshot
  • A $30 non-refundable processing fee

SUBMISSION TIMELINE

  • The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2025.
  • All applicants will receive an email regarding decisions no later than April 1.
  • Signed commitment agreements must be received by April 15. 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & COPYRIGHT REQUIREMENTS

  • The work created at NCDP must be wholly original and may not infringe upon the copyright or other intellectual property or other legal or moral rights of any other person or entity.
  • Applicants are responsible for obtaining and securing any and all rights, licenses, consent, and permissions, if applicable, from third parties in relation to any copyrighted material that is not your own (e.g. music used in your performance).
